How to describe services and choose useful business categories

A category helps people begin a search, but the service description helps them decide whether a business is right for their need. Use both to make a company profile easier to find and easier to trust.

Start with the customer’s task

Write the service as something a customer can ask for. A clear task is more helpful than a broad label such as solutions or professional services. Say what is delivered, who it helps and when someone should contact the business.

Choose the most specific accurate category

Select the category that best represents the main service. Add another category only when it describes a real, current part of the offer. Categories should help customers compare relevant businesses, not make a profile appear in unrelated searches.

Explain scope, location and availability

State whether the service is local, remote or available in selected areas. Mention important limits such as the type of project, customer group or language supported. Specific information prevents unsuitable enquiries and makes a listing more useful.

Use the words customers use, without copying competitors

Listen to the questions customers ask before choosing a provider. Include natural names for services and common problems, then explain them in your own words. Avoid repeating a keyword or creating a long list of places where the business does not work.

Review categories after a real business change

Update the profile when a service starts, ends or moves to a new area. Check that the company name, contact details, categories and service description still agree. A small regular review is better than a large correction after customers have received wrong information.
